14-25 Mentoring Programme

Our Alternative Provision programme is designed to support young people transitioning and engaging in education or as they prepare for their next steps.

We will tailor a programme around each individual to mentor them through a combination of approaches. The mentoring will be set up to work with them in education, through outreach, or group-based activities.

The programme is targeted to young neurodiverse students between the ages of 14-25. The programme will include an assessment and offer of a maximum of 8 hours per week with each student.

Key aspects of the programme focus to:

1. Demonstrate Understanding of their needs, experiences, and how they feel
2. Nurture them through the process of and challenges as they re-engage or transition within education or next steps
3. Inspire their ambition and feeling they can succeed
4. Trust in the support built around them
5. Enjoy what they do.

What To Expect

Each programme is designed to build confidence with the young person. We achieve this through building a relationship and trust over time. This is essential for a young person to reach their potential and have the chance to engage with their education or next steps.

During this process we will use an indirect approach to develop their life skills around communication, dealing with challenges, employable skills, and self-awareness - all while having fun.

We will use a nurturing approach to help the young person build their relationships with school staff and gradually re-engage in academia.

We can also provide mentoring as part of a collaborative approach to transitioning between school, sixth form, or college.

We use a model we designed which incorporates PACE, Restorative Justice, Life story Work, Therapeutic Strategies, and Independent Life Skills development.

How We Will Work The Young Persons

The time needed to build trust and meet the needs of each young person will need to be adapted around their personal situation.

Depending on the extent of their aims, needs, and the services they're already engaging with will change the amount of time we will mentor them for.

Typically we anticipate the 14-25 Mentoring to continue for up to 1 academic year ( + a 4-6 week period to re-engage or transition afterwards).

How Long Each Programme Will Last

One way we adapt, especially for next steps, is to offer a tailored version of our Neurodiverse Workshops. This will include introductory Reflective Workshop style sessions for the school team. Each of these will be tailored around our Neurodiverse Mentoring topics.

We do this to enable the school team and parents to begin with a clear understanding, expectations, and approaches to how the young person is supported to achieve.
